However, what I still couldn't achieve is Windows 98 to recognize me, either like a hard disk drive or like a floppy drive, a directory from the native OS (Windows 10), virtually mounted through the "mount" command. While this isnt specifically an answer about making VirtualBox do what you want, Id recommend DOSBox when doing DOS or Win3x gaming over a regular virtual. Its a program designed for your exact scenario, wanting to play old games. But honestly, rather than trying to virtualise all of Windows 98, you may have better luck with DOSBox. My trouble is this one: I've achieved to boot Windows 98 from DosBox-X, according to the tutorial page ( ) I've also achieved to load a CD-ROM drive from a virtual ISO image file. VMware Player is another virtualisation platform that does have tooling for Windows 98. Right click on the file or shortcut you want to start and choose 'properties'. ![]() If they don't work, the first thing you can try is to start the program or game in compatibility mode.
